In the warm, inspiring space of the Reimer Center, filled with mutual respect and a spirit of growth, a special event recently took place that left a lasting impression on its participants. Polina, an active and responsible leader of the School Without Walls (SWW), took the initiative to organize a meeting for key leaders of the Reimer Center. This event became more than just a gathering — it was a true platform for sharing experiences, making new discoveries, and reflecting deeply on how to build healthy communication within a team.
The organizers created a cozy environment where everyone felt free to speak openly. Polina opened the meeting with inspiring words, emphasizing that the main topic would be “The Importance of Good Communication.” She stressed that effective communication is not just about exchanging information, but a deep process in which trust, support, and understanding are formed. She pointed out that team issues often arise not from a lack of willingness to work together, but from misinterpretations, inattentive listening, and assumptions based on personal experience rather than what was actually said.
Throughout the event, Polina led several practical exercises that allowed participants to test their communication skills in action. One exercise involved paired listening, where one person shared their thoughts while the other simply listened without interrupting, asking only clarifying questions. Participants were surprised at how much deeper their understanding became when they truly listened instead of just waiting for their turn to speak. These simple yet effective exercises revealed that genuine interest in the other person is key to good communication.
A particularly striking exercise involved drawing a picture based solely on verbal instructions from a partner without visual contact. One participant described an image they saw, and the other tried to recreate it on paper. The results were not only unexpected but highly educational. This task vividly showed how difficult it can be to understand someone without visual cues and how crucial it is to clearly articulate thoughts and ask for clarification. Many participants admitted this exercise helped them realize the value of clear communication.
During the discussion, Polina concluded, “It’s very helpful when people working together can truly understand each other.” She explained that the secret to effective communication lies in openness to others’ thoughts, asking questions, and avoiding hasty conclusions. Her message served as a reminder of the importance of seeking real understanding through dialogue rather than projecting one’s own experiences onto others.
Olya, one of the active participants, also shared her insights: “It’s very important to understand each other and express your own thoughts. Thanks to this meeting, I’ve improved this skill.” Her sincere and grateful tone resonated with the audience. Many agreed that such events are not only beneficial but essential for building unity and cohesion in a team striving for common goals.
As the meeting drew to a close, the room was filled with warmth and inspiration. People lingered, discussing new ideas, planning future projects, and sharing their impressions. It was clear that something more than just a training session had occurred — a new sense of unity, mutual support, and shared vision had emerged. Leaders became closer, discovering new sides of their colleagues and themselves.
This meeting marked an important step in strengthening team collaboration at Reimer Center. Watching the shift in mood and behavior, Polina proudly realized that her initiative bore fruit. The team had become more open, attentive, and united. Everyone agreed that this experience should be repeated, because it is through dialogue that we grow, learn, and become stronger as a community.
