The Light of Easter in Our Hearts: A Warm Evening at the Reimer Center

Easter is a celebration that, despite the full-scale war and many hardships, does not lose its value. It is a day when people are open to conversations about God, salvation, and the purpose of Jesus’ coming into this world. It is more relevant than ever because people are desperately seeking peace, calmness, and hope — hope that is found only in God and the future we have in Him.

On Easter evening, the Reimer Center team gathered about 40 people in a cozy, almost family-like circle. Family-like — because these were people who have long-standing relationships with the Center: children studying English came with their parents, teenagers, relatives of military personnel, visitors, and volunteers. That evening, there were no divisions between locals and internally displaced persons, between those in need and those providing help. Everyone sat at shared tables, communicating and greeting each other warmly.

Olga, one of the Reimer Center leaders, shared: “It was important for me to show care and attention to those who came. To share the Gospel and explain the significance of today’s celebration to those who may not yet know it, and to rejoice with those for whom Christ is already the Savior.”

Pastor Oleksiy from the AMBCU “New Hope” church was also invited. He spoke about why Easter is a celebration for us. The central truth of his message was the words from the Bible: “For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.” His words inspired and encouraged everyone to reflect on who Christ truly is for each of us.

Visitors also had the opportunity to test their knowledge about the Easter events through a fun quiz. Children attending the Center’s kids’ club easily answered the questions, as they had just heard the Easter story the day before — and they were thrilled. For some parents, it was a bit more challenging. “When I was in school, they taught us about Easter differently,” shared Lyudmyla, amazed at how different the truth is from what she had previously learned. In the end, the most experienced women — volunteers at the Center — emerged as the quiz winners.

Especially touching was the participation of the girls who are learning to sing and play musical instruments. Together with their leader, Serhiy, they prepared several Easter songs to congratulate the adults, creating a special, warm, and joyful atmosphere. At the end, everyone received a small gift — cookies made using an old Welsh recipe, lovingly prepared by Reimer Center teenagers themselves. For girls like Varvara and Sofia, it was not just important to be present but also to take part in organizing and supporting the event, learning side by side with adults how to serve others.

“We are very thankful for the celebration. We always feel at home with you,” said Iryna, whose two daughters, Sofia and Stefania, regularly attend the Center. She deeply appreciates the positive influence that communication with the Center’s leaders has on her children.

Even in difficult times, such gatherings reaffirm that true hope and joy do not depend on circumstances. They come with Christ — the One who conquered death and brings light even into the darkest moments of human life.
