Faith Growing Amid the Storm

The war has brought many trials to Ukraine, but it has also become a time when people began to seek God in a new way. Reimer Center in Zaporizhzhia has become not only a place of help for children, teenagers, and families, but also a spiritual home where several churches continue to gather. Among them is the Mennonite church, which has found shelter and new life here.

During the years of war, this church has grown and strengthened. Pastor Oleksiy, who leads the community, gratefully speaks about God’s faithfulness. When the world around is filled with news of danger and loss, people feel an even greater need for eternal truths. They come to Reimer Center not only for words of encouragement but also for a living experience of God’s presence.

Today, about 50 people attend the Mennonite church services. Each person carries a story of searching, pain, and hope. Some have lost their homes, some fled from the front line, and others experienced deep personal tragedies. Yet all of them found here a new family and peace in God’s Word.

Pastor Oleksiy sees his calling in bringing the light of the Gospel even in the darkest times. He often says: “I thank God that I have the opportunity to serve these people. In the time of war, hearts are especially open and ready to hear the truth about hope in Christ.” His ministry is a testimony that even in the chaos of war, God continues to build His Church.

This year the community plans to baptize seven people. Each baptism is a sign of transformation and a conscious decision to follow Christ. In times of war, this becomes an even more powerful testimony of faith and courage.

As the church prepares for baptism, joy fills the atmosphere. It reminds everyone that even in destruction and sorrow, something new and beautiful is being born — new life in Christ.

Reimer Center continues to be a place where physical help and spiritual encouragement meet. People come for food and fellowship, but above all, they come to meet God. The story of the Mennonite church shows that God’s love and His Church cannot be destroyed by war.

For Pastor Oleksiy and the whole congregation, every gathering is proof of God’s faithfulness. They pray, sing, listen to the Word, and find strength to keep moving forward. And today it is clear: God is at work in Ukraine, building His Church and transforming lives — and Reimer Center is one of the places where this light shines the brightest.
